Naples has a new reason to be proud, and it aired on national television Tuesday night.

Sarah Hardwig, a 23-year-old country singer-songwriter born and raised in Naples, stepped onto the America's Got Talent stage on Episode 7 of Season 21 and delivered a performance that moved judges, moved the audience, and moved the millions of people watching at home.

Accompanying herself on guitar, Hardwig performed Lainey Wilson's "Heart Like a Truck," a song that, in her hands, carried extra weight. The audience roared. The judges were visibly moved.

Howie Mandel called it beautiful and heartwarming and told Hardwig she is the epitome of resilience, that she showed up and sang her heart out and moved thousands of strangers in the room and hopefully millions more at home. Sofia Vergara told her she wouldn't change a thing. Simon Cowell and Mel B completed the four-judge panel, with Mel B, the toughest voice in the room, acknowledging Hardwig has a really good voice while suggesting she has even more to give on a bigger stage. 👁️ Who Sarah Hardwig Is

Sarah Hardwig was born in Naples, Florida; her father, Greg Hardwig, was the longtime sports editor of the Naples Daily News, making her a true Naples community family. At just five months old, her parents noticed her eyes were no longer tracking movement and took her to the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, where she was diagnosed with Leber's Congenital Amaurosis, a genetic condition that impaired her vision from birth.

Music became her guiding light at age four. By the time she finished high school in Naples, she had performed the national anthem more than 300 times. She moved to Nashville to pursue her career and enrolled at Belmont University as a songwriting major, one of the most competitive music programs in the country. Along the way, she has performed at legendary Nashville venues including The Bluebird Cafe, the Tin Roof, and the Listening Room Cafe. She once sang with Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, and the video went viral.

Her influences include Kelsea Ballerini and Carrie Underwood. Her mission, stated clearly before her AGT performance, is to prove to the world that disability or not, you can do absolutely anything you set your mind to.
